What is the Certified Pool/Spa Operator® (CPO®) Certification?
The Certified Pool/Spa Operator® (CPO®) Certification program is the world’s leading verifiable pool and spa training credential for keeping pools safer and keeping them open. Over 500,000 students have been trained since 1973. A CPO® Certification will give you the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations and has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities. Anyone who is responsible for managing, supervising, and/or servicing a public or private aquatic facility (such as backyard pools, public pools, homeowner’s association pools, hotel pools, YMCA pools, school pools, and more) should seek Certified Pool/Spa Operator certification.
CPO certification provides individuals with the knowledge, techniques, and skills required for proper pool operations. A CPO Certified Pool/Spa Operator is a person who has successfully completed a specific course of instruction sanctioned by the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA). The PHTA was formed in 2019, combining the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) and the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF).
