Triathlon is a globally popular endurance multisport race involving swimming, cycling, and running across various distances. Triathletes strive for the fastest overall completion time, progressing through each segment sequentially with transition times included. Triathlon emerged from the 1970s American fitness craze for long-distance running. Its debut as an Olympic sport occurred at the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia.
Triathlon events vary in length, yet all adhere to a sequential order of swimming, cycling, and running. Notably, Olympic and International Triathlon Union (ITU, now World Triathlon) triathlons encompass a 1.5-km swim, a 40-km bike ride, and a 10-km run.
Among the most gruelling one-day triathlons stands the Ironman, completed by top athletes in under nine hours. As participants increasingly seek to push boundaries, organizers continue to arrange longer unofficial races to test human endurance. More and more Malaysians are interested in multisport with the ultimate goal of competing in an Ironman race but they don’t know how to start. This is where triathlon coaching comes in as we will be able to guide you towards the right direction while minimizing the trial and errors.

Commencing training for a debut triathlon may seem daunting, given the need to prepare for three distinct sports: swimming, cycling, and running. From selecting a race to devising a workout regimen, acquiring gear, and adopting an athlete’s diet, the process can be overwhelming. With just 4-5 hours of training per week, aspiring triathletes can reach the starting line of their inaugural race in a mere 8 weeks. Following a beginner-friendly training plan streamlines the process, providing structure and removing the uncertainty surrounding daily workouts.
RC Coaching was established since 2018 and has been providing Malaysian based triathlon coaching to athletes over the years. The founder, Rupert Chen, is a 7 times Ironman finisher with a personal best of sub 10 hours and 3 times SEA Games triathlon & duathlon coach. RC Coaching has been the biggest Ironman Tri Club in Malaysia since 2018 and has produced many competitive athletes from SEA Games medallists to Ironman World Championship qualifiers. Significantly, RC Coaching has produced hundreds of Ironman finishers and also coached many youth triathletes from the grassroots level.
Having accumulated a lot of hands-on coaching experience and knowledge RC Coaching has taken triathlon coaching to a whole new level. Their coaches are all passionate multisport athletes themselves and are certified from an accredited body to coach multisport athletes.
RC Coaching, in collaboration with D Swim Academy (DSA) offers a comprehensive triathlon development program from grassroots to high performance with their motto “Now Everyone Can Tri”. Their goal is to provide the best triathlon coaching at an affordable price at more strategic locations around Malaysia.
