Artistic swimming (formerly known as Synchronised Swimming) as a sport is well known for its beauty and appeal while at the same time being exceptionally demanding for the performers. It calls for immense talent in multiple areas as swimmers in this sport need to have the flexibility and grace of a gymnast or dancer, the strength and endurance of a speed swimmer or athlete.
Artistic swimming calls for both technical merit and also artistic impressions and evaluations are made on these two criteria. Technical merit includes the execution, synchronization and degree of difficulty while artistic impression is based on the choreography, music interpretation and the presentation of the performance.
DSA Artistic Swimming is a fun sport that blends acrobatics, swimming and dance. Benefits include fitness, increasing strength and flexibility and improving teamwork and co-ordination. DSA Artistic Swimming Program is the top synchro skill development program from the internationally renowned SYNCHRO CANADA.
For swimmers eager to learn the sport of Artistic swimming, Synchro Canada’s Star Program offers progressive, step-by-step instruction and evaluation suitable for a variety of ages and abilities, including persons with disabilities.
This developmental skills program offers instruction starting with basic skills and moving to more advanced techniques as swimmers progress through the levels. Swimmers will learn all of the fundamental sculls, basic figures and their parts, and be introduced to a sequence and routine component in the early levels and will then move on to the more challenging levels.
Competitions and Shows
Competitions and water shows are a chance for swimmers to show-off for family and friends. By entering competitions (regionally, provincially or nationally) swimmers will be vying for medals, trophies and awards. In Canada, swimmers are placed in a competitive Tier for competition according to the Star level achieved, thereby ensuring that they compete against swimmers with similar skills. Competitions and shows are lots of fun and will be sure to build camaraderie among teammates!
