Team of elite swimmers and coaches conduct interactive session in Bukit Jalil
DSA conducted an incredible swim clinic on February 4 2024, led by coach Craig Stewart and an elite lineup of champions from South Australia Sports Institute (SASI). The SASI team who all arrived at Bukit Jalil to give about 150 young DSA swimmers the thrill of a lifetime as they had a whole day of activity both in and out of the water.
The South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) identifies, develops and supports athletes with the potential to perform at the highest national and international levels of sport. Established in 1982, the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) was Australia’s first state sports institute. It is a division of the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing in the South Australian Government. SASI identifies, develops and supports athletes with the potential to perform at the highest national and international levels of sport. The institute works with sporting partners to conduct world-class intensive coaching and training programs and individual scholarship programs.
The SASI team of 8 high performance swimmers and 4 coaches included Olympic Gold Medallist and Commonwealth Champion Kyle Chalmers, who is one of the world’s best sprint swimmers who won an Olympic title at Rio in 2016 with a world junior record. Chalmers also broke the short course 100meter freestyle world record at the 2021 Swimming World Cup in Kazan.
Australian record holder Mathew Temple, Dylan Andrea, Harrison Biddell, Molly Walker, Brittany Castelluzzo, Luke Knappstein and sports physiologist Jamie Stanley were the other champions from Australia who were part of the coaching team. International swimmers Josha Salchow from Germany and Ingeborg Loyning from Norway were also part of the lineup of eminent swimming stars at the Bukit Jalil event.
The SASI team shared their valuable experience and knowledge to the young swimmers during the pool sessions and also for the land training and exercise sessions. Just being with this elite group and listening to them was a great morale boost and a thrilling experience for the young swimmers. In addition, they all had a chance to take precious ‘selfies’ and get the autographs of their idols at the Meet & Greet session which followed the training sessions. The SASI team also had the opportunity of being the front row audience to a breath-taking lion dance performance as the wildly moving, nimble footed dancers kept them enthralled.
DSA thanks all the members of the elite team from SASI who made time from their busy schedules to be with the DSA swimmers and we look forward to some awesome performance from our enthused young champions in the meets ahead. Onward Team DSA!
